South Carolina Jewish Federations released the following statement recording a recent White Supremacist March at the SC State House:
"We are concerned and disappointed to hear that this past Saturday, in our state’s Capitol, a group of uniformed white nationalists marched openly through the streets shouting hate speech. They made their way to our State House, and staged a brief rally before dispersing. This is the first time in recent memory that such a group has demonstrated publicly in South Carolina.
On the same day these neo-fascist white supremacists marched at the State House, an anti-Israel activist group demonstrated as well, like every week for the past several months. Unfortunately, since the brutal terror attack against Israel on 10/7/2023, we have borne witness to a historic rise in antisemitic incidents, with extremist groups on both fringes of the political spectrum contributing to the problem. This rise in antisemitism has made our community members feel more alienated and less safe in their day-to-day lives, even at their places of worship.
Our South Carolina Jewish Federations commit to confronting antisemitism through security, education, coalition-building, and advocacy. This week, our Jewish communities will propose and advocate for a new program to help ensure all places of worship have the security they need to pray safely. We look forward to working with friends of faith from around our state on this important issue.
Since Saturday, our organizations have been closely coordinating and communicating with the Anti-Defamation League’s Southern Division, our local and national Secure Community Network professionals, and law enforcement, and will keep the community informed of any important developments."
