Crews will reach substantial completion on their work at SC-41 and Joe Rouse Road ahead of schedule, and the improved traffic patterns are expected to be implemented at 6 a.m., Wednesday, July 24.
These improvements, which are designed to improve safety, enhance the flow of traffic, and significantly reduce congestion throughout the area, include:
- An updated signal that allows SC 41 southbound traffic on to flow freely, except when a pedestrian is crossing.
- A single left turn lane from Joe Rouse onto SC 41 southbound.
- Extended “green time” for Joe Rouse Road traffic, allowing more traffic to clear during each light cycle.
Detailed project plans and traffic models depicting the upgraded patterns can be found here.
To allow crews to safely complete the implementation of these improvements, intermittent nighttime lane closures will be in effect in this area between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday, July 22 through Wednesday, July 24.
During that time, flaggers will be on site to direct traffic, and construction signs and message boards will be in place to alert drivers. Drivers are asked to use caution as these upgrades are completed.
All remaining phases of the SC-41 Interim Improvements Project, including improvements to the SC-41/US 17/Dingle Road intersection, are expected to be completed in October.
