Pet Helpers is launching a series of initiatives aimed at helping families and pets during the government shutdown. Recognizing that many community members are facing financial uncertainty, Pet Helpers is offering support for both animals and people.
Three ways Pet Helpers is helping the community:
1. Pet Food Bank – Providing free food to pet owners in need, ensuring pets stay nourished and families can keep their beloved companions at home.
2. “Pawsitive Pick-Up” Pet Supply Giveaway – On Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Pet Helpers will host a giveaway of gently used and new pet supplies including beds, bowls, toys, and carriers. All items will be free to help bring comfort and joy to pets in the community.
3. Feed Charleston Community Food Drive – Pet Helpers is partnering with many local businesses across Charleston to collect non-perishable food donations, led by Cyn Harlow of SunDazed Cafe. Current drop-off locations include: Pet Helpers, SunDazed Cafe, The Flow, Lounge Around, Sweatmans Garden, Trident Dental, Dawn Patrol Coffeehouse, Harlow & Pearl, James Island Yoga, Jae Space, Cosmic Cadence, and City Lights — with more locations to come. Donations will be accepted daily from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pet Helpers shelter and will be distributed to families in need throughout the Lowcountry.
“During times like these, it’s important to remember that a strong community lifts everyone up,” said Melissa Susko, Executive Director of Pet Helpers.“We know Charleston has been there for us, and now it’s our turn to support our neighbors and their pets. Every donation, every visit, and every act of kindness makes a real difference.”
Pet Helpers encourages members of the community to participate in these initiatives by donating, picking up supplies, or simply spreading the word. For more information on how to get involved, visit pethelpers.org or call (843)795-1110.
