Palmetto Choral Collective, formerly known as Palmetto Youth Choir and Palmetto Peace Choir, has officially become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in South Carolina. The group also announced its first fundraising event, Sip & Sing: One-Night Choir, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at High Wire Distilling, 311 Huger St. in Charleston.
Palmetto Choral Collective offers inclusive, secular, audition-free community choirs for both youth and adults, with an emphasis on empowerment and accessibility. Choirs are organized by age group, and members learn musicianship, music literacy, and vocal technique while performing a diverse, secular repertoire at concerts and collaborative events throughout the Charleston area.
There are no auditions or music-reading requirements, and all voices are welcome. The organization’s mission is to create an inclusive environment for all participants, regardless of musical experience, race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, color, national origin, religion, disability, or age.
“We first started the choirs under my LLC to see if the idea took flight. Well, it certainly did,” said Executive Director Regina Ruopoli. “We took a breath and transformed to a nonprofit model to continue supporting our exponential growth. We offer a much-needed resource in the community, especially as arts programming continues to dwindle in our schools and adults crave ways to have authentic community and connection.”
Artistic Director Danielle Loveless added, “We’ve grown steadily and are excited to collaborate this season with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Opera Theater, and other creative arts organizations. It’s inspiring to work with our local friends and colleagues in music, in addition to producing our own concerts and events.”
The organization’s season aligns with the school year, and summer camps are also offered. While a monthly fee helps offset expenses, scholarships are available to ensure access for all.
To support its scholarship program, the group’s Sip & Sing fundraiser will invite participants to socialize, learn, and perform a special arrangement of the classic rock anthem “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey with a four-piece band. The event is open to everyone, regardless of vocal ability or experience. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online.
