SUMMERVILLE, S.C. - Nexton, a thoughtfully designed community rooted in connection and smart growth outside of Charleston, was presented with the Grand Award for Best Masterplanned Community and an Award of Merit for Best Commercial Project as part of the annual Gold Nugget Awards.
Presented by CBIA and PCBC, the Gold Nugget Awards are the oldest and most prestigious international design awards in the nation, recognizing those who improve our communities through exceptional concepts in architectural design, planning and development. These honors recognize solutions that address hyper-local challenges and set a standard for innovation across the globe.
The Grand Award recognizes Nexton's innovative master-planned community, where thoughtfully designed neighborhoods, abundant parks and trails, a growing employment center, leading healthcare providers, more than 30 restaurants, hundreds of retail destinations, hotels, education, recreation and entertainment venues come together in a connected, highly accessible and amenitized environment. Located in the Charleston region, Nexton has become a model for integrated community development that supports long-term growth while enriching everyday life.
"Awards are always appreciated, but what inspires us most are the stories behind them," said Cassie Cataline, Marketing Director for Brookfield Residential. "They’re the stories of families finding their home, entrepreneurs opening their doors, neighbors meeting for coffee, and people discovering a genuine sense of community. That's what Nexton has always been about, and we're grateful to see that vision recognized on a national stage."
The recognition comes amid a strong showing for South Carolina, with three of the four finalists in the Masterplanned Community of the Year category located in the state. This achievement underscores South Carolina's growing reputation as a national leader in innovative community development and economic growth.
The Hub at Nexton, which received an Award of Merit for Best Commercial Project, serves as a centerpiece for commerce and community activity within Nexton. Anchored by a central green and beloved local businesses including The Co-Op, LPC Kitchen and The Spa at Nexton, The Hub has become a vibrant gathering place where community, commerce and connection come together, further supporting Nexton's role as both a regional destination and economic engine.
“The best places create opportunities for connection, and that's exactly what we hoped to achieve with The Hub,” said Phillip Manchester, Managing Partner for SL Shaw & Associates. “From morning coffee to community events on the green, it's become a place where people naturally come together. We're honored to have that vision recognized.”
