Walmart customers in Goose Creek were welcomed inside the newly transformed Neighborhood Market at 215 Saint James Avenue last Friday as the much-anticipated renovation was completed. The remodel reflects Walmart’s commitment to providing customers with the best assortment, prices, and overall shopping experience, whether in-store, online, or via the mobile app.
“At Walmart, enhancing our customers' shopping experience is always a priority,” said John Cofield, Walmart store manager. “We’re thrilled to unveil a variety of new features and improvements at our store that will ultimately allow us to better serve the Goose Creek community. A big thank you to our dedicated associates and store leadership teams for their exceptional efforts throughout the renovation.”
The reopening included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community celebration, attended by local organizations such as the city of Goose Creek, Jean’s Angels, and Feed Berkeley SC.
Walmart Neighborhood Markets are smaller than traditional Walmart Supercenters but still offer a wide array of products. Shoppers can find fresh produce, meat and dairy, bakery and deli items, pantry staples, household goods, health and beauty products, pet supplies, and in-store pharmacy services.
The Goose Creek Neighborhood Market has undergone several updates to better serve the community, including:
- Fresh Look & Feel: New paint, fixtures, signage, and LED lighting for a brighter, more inviting shopping environment.
- Enhanced Deli & Hot Bar: A larger, full-service deli with a hot bar offering fresh, ready-to-eat meals.
- Expanded Aisles: A reconfigured layout to provide more space and convenience for shoppers.
- Online Grocery Pickup & Delivery Upgrades: Enhancements to support increased demand for online grocery services.
- Pharmacy Improvements: A new consult room for private conversations and pharmacy delivery services.
To support the local community, the store manager and associates presented $2,750 in grants to local nonprofit organizations:
- $1,500 to the City of Goose Creek
- $750 to Jean’s Angels
- $500 to Feed Berkeley SC
The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of the store’s new mural (see below), designed by artist Karina N. Cruz Ortiz. Titled Timeless Flow, the mural celebrates Goose Creek’s history, nature, and community spirit. It draws inspiration from the city’s name — honoring the creek where gray geese once gathered — and highlights local activities like fishing and kayaking. The artwork also features St. James Avenue, connecting the historic St. James Church with the Goose Creek Community Center.
The mural is part of Walmart’s Community Mural Program, one of the largest public art initiatives celebrating communities across America. As a key element of store transformations, the program reinforces Walmart’s commitment to honoring and supporting local communities.
