WASHINGTON, D.C. — Autos Drive America (ADA) and the American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA) today released their 2026 Economic Impact Report, highlighting the continued economic contributions international automakers and nameplate dealers are making in South Carolina. Investments from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo have cultivated economic growth and job creation for communities throughout the state.
“South Carolina is one of the most dynamic manufacturing and export hubs for international automakers in the country,” said Jennifer Safavian, President and CEO of Autos Drive America. “Our members have invested $18.9 billion in South Carolina’s auto industry. Trade volatility created real headwinds for our industry in 2025, but our members’ steadfast commitment to South Carolina cushioned that impact for the workers and communities who depend on this industry. Without it, the picture here would look very different.”
Key findings from the 2026 Economic Impact Report for South Carolina include:
- International automakers, dealers, and suppliers generated 95,098 total jobs in South Carolina, paying $7.3 billion in total employee compensation.
- International automakers invested $18.9 billion in South Carolina’s auto industry.
- International automakers in South Carolina produced 472,457 vehicles in 2025, accounting for 100% of total auto production in the state.
South Carolina’s international automakers exported 10 vehicle models to 119 countries and territories in 2025 through the Port of Charleston. That export footprint illustrates both the opportunity and the risk trade uncertainty poses to South Carolina’s economy.
