Charleston County today shared details on their modified Thanksgiving holiday recycling collection schedule:
Curbside Recycling Collection:
- Curbside recycling collection will NOT occur on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28. Collection will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week. Crews will work on Saturdays.
- Due to anticipated heavy volume along routes, please allow for potential delays. To assist with efficient collection, residents should place carts curbside by 7 a.m. facing the road with the lid closed.
- Crews often work into the late evening, so even if you suspect you’ve been missed, please leave your cart at the curb until the following morning. If your cart is still full at that time, please call 843-720-7111 or text “Hello” to Citibot at 843-800-1341 for assistance.

Staffed Convenience Centers:
- Staffed Convenience Centers will be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 in observance of Thanksgiving. They will reopen on Saturday, November 30 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Additionally, please note that Environmental Management Department administrative offices will also be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29.
Citizens are encouraged to go green this holiday season by composting Christmas trees, used cooking oil, and other accepted items.
- To compost natural trees, residents should first remove all decorations such as lights, tinsel, and ornaments.
- Some municipalities will pick trees up curbside, or they can be taken to a convenience center. Trees picked up curbside are transported to the McGill Bees Ferry Compost Facility to be ground and composted.
- Used cooking oil can be dropped off at one of Charleston County’s eight staffed Convenience Centers.
- All paper, including gift wrapping and flattened cardboard boxes, can be recycled through the curbside program, at a drop-site location, or at a Convenience Center. All materials must fit in the cart with the lid closed, so please flatten or cut down oversized cardboard.
- Overflow recyclable material (including cardboard) may be dropped off at any recycling drop-site location.
