COLUMBIA, S.C. - Maynard Nexsen is proud to announce that Shareholder Joan W. Hartley has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL).
Hartley is the fifth attorney in South Carolina to be elected to ACOEL and the third from Maynard Nexsen, joining Tommy Lavender and the late Tommy Wells (1950-2024). She joins ACOEL alongside a class of 17 other fellows who have a depth of experience in and have made substantial contributions to the field of environmental law.
Hartley has more than 20 years of experience practicing environmental and real estate law, with a focus on environmental permitting, regulatory compliance matters, business transactions involving environmental issues, brownfields redevelopment and environmental litigation. Her practice is regularly recognized by Chambers and Partners and The Best Lawyers in America®, who named her “Lawyer of the Year” in Columbia, South Carolina for Environmental Law in 2022 and 2024. She holds a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law and a B.A. from the University of South Carolina, Aiken.
