Lowcountry Land Trust, a nonprofit committed to conserving Lowcountry landscapes and waterways for current and future generations, invites residents across Charleston to take part in Lowcountry Earth Month this April. Now in its fourth year, Lowcountry Earth Month is a collaborative initiative to connect people with nature, community, and conservation efforts throughout the Lowcountry and the places they love most.
Back by popular demand, Lowcountry Earth Month brings together over 50 organizations across the South Carolina coast to offer a wide range of opportunities for residents to connect, protect, and learn about the environment. From oceanfront cleanups on Folly Beach and Isle of Palms to oyster reef builds, bird walks, family-friendly nature festivals, and educational tours of environmental facilities, the month-long initiative makes it easy for individuals and families to get involved in ways that fit their interests.
“We started Lowcountry Earth Month to provide an easy, one-stop online resource for locals,” said Victoria Bock, communications director for Lowcountry Land Trust. “Now, community members can explore and sign up for events hosted by nonprofits, businesses, and government organizations working to protect the region’s natural resources. It’s incredible to see how the community continues to show up and support the organizations that are working to keep the Lowcountry beautiful.”
The impact of the initiative continues to thrive each year. In 2025, for example, more than 3,200 volunteers participated in events throughout the month, contributing to efforts such as litter removal, tree and native plant giveaways, and more. Participating organizations reported that the collaboration introduced new audiences to their work and strengthened connections across the region.
For locals, Lowcountry Earth Month offers a chance to try something new, meet like-minded neighbors, and gain a deeper understanding of conservation in the Lowcountry. Whether attending an educational session, volunteering at a cleanup, or exploring a new outdoor space, each event provides an opportunity to make a tangible impact.
