Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) has been awarded $50,000 in grant funding by Norfolk Southern Corporation to support the LCFB's mission in the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina to unite its community in pursuit of equitable, dignified, and consistent access to food. The funds will be used by LCFB to purchase more than 168,000 pounds of nutritious food, including fresh produce.
“This funding will have an immediate impact on the work we do,” said Nick Osborne, Lowcountry Food Bank President and CEO. “We’re thankful to Norfolk Southern for investing in our community and for supporting our mission.”
This nutritious food will be provided to more than 3,700 households in the 10 coastal counties that LCFB serves through 21 food distributions, which meet people where they are, in their own neighborhoods, who experience food insecurity.
The grant is part of two community programs launched by Norfolk Southern in 2023: the Safety First Grant Program, which seeks to advance safety organizations and initiatives, and the Thriving Communities Grant Program, which aims to promote economic opportunity, support vibrant community life, and provide equal access to basic necessities. Award recipients are selected annually from across the railroad’s 22-state network.
