Ladybird Books, a 1,760-square-foot, New York Times reporting, independent bookstore, is now open at 299 King St. and will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Guests are sure to enjoy the store’s interior. Elements of the original building, including the distinctive flooring that spills onto the corner of King and Liberty streets, were preserved and showcased inside. New design features, such as a curved corner bench, playful window art and neatly arranged shelves filled with colorful books, give the space a fresh, modern feel. Art deco-inspired sconces complement mid-century modern chairs, while framed art and whimsical details add a sense of wonder. Natural tones and layered textures create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
In addition to fiction, nonfiction and cookbooks, visitors will find journals, coffee table books, puzzles and elegant coloring books. Music lovers can browse a dedicated section featuring albums and titles written by or about musicians. A high-end wrapping paper and gifting station makes Ladybird Books a go-to spot for unique gifts.
“Ladybird is meant to be more than a bookstore. I hope it provides a space for connection, delight and discovery,” said founder Summer Anderson. “The goal from the beginning was to create a place that feels like an eclectic reflection of our community, where stories, ideas and people come together in unexpected ways.”
