Transgender Day of Visibility, a day dedicated to raising awareness about transgender people and celebrating the lives and contributions of trans people, is coming up on March 31st – here’s how you can support the local LGBTQI+ community.
Support Charleston nonprofit We Are Family’s Trans Love Fund is dedicated to supporting South Carolina’s transgender community by providing emergency funds to trans-identified individuals throughout South Carolina for medical, legal, and emergency living expenses. Since its founding in 2013, the Trans Love Fund has distributed over $65,000 in microgrants to those in need across the state.
You can support WAF’s Trans Love Fund this Transgender Day of Visibility by donating here. Your donations can provide critical medication, legal services, housing, and more to those who could not otherwise access these.
You can also join We Are Family at Commonhouse Aleworks on March 30th for Trans Day of Visibility Poetry Night. This free event, hosted by Itinerant Literate Books, will celebrate trans voices and the release of poet Evelyn Berry's newest collection of poems, Grief Slut. We Are Family will be speaking at this event between open mic sessions along with AFFA, Charleston Fairy Coalition, and Free Mom Hugs Charleston. Reserve your ticket here.
