Good Strategies, a Charleston-based nonprofit consulting firm, will host a live webinar on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, via Zoom to explore how nonprofits can strategically use volunteer engagement as a catalyst for rebuilding civic life across South Carolina and beyond.
According to AmeriCorps and the U.S. Census Bureau, formal volunteering in the U.S. dropped from 30% in 2019 to 23.2% in 2021—the steepest decline in two decades. While there are signs of a gradual rebound, nonprofits still face a pressing need for support. Meanwhile, nearly 51% of U.S. adults reported participating in informal acts of helping, such as delivering food or caring for a neighbor’s children.
“Good Strategies is excited to support nonprofits in deepening their volunteer engagement and building stronger communities,” said Christine Messick, president and CEO of Good Strategies. “We must find a way to harness and document these activities to connect them to larger civic goals in the community. Events like this foster collaboration and shine a light on the power of volunteerism to drive civic renewal.”
This free event will inspire attendees and offer actionable strategies to enhance volunteer involvement and strengthen communities. Featured panelists include Rachel Hutchisson, CEO of Common Impact; Dr. Nathan Dietz, research director and associate research professor at the Do Good Institute; Phyllis Martin, executive director of the Jewish Endowment Foundation of South Carolina; and Beth Steinhorn, president of VQ Strategies. The discussion will be moderated by Chris Volf, founder of Work Volf Consultants.
