To further assist other communities in South Carolina facing wildfires, Dorchester County Fire Rescue was pleased to have five firefighters travel to the eastern portion of the state to support units with fire rescue response from Sunday, March 2 to Tuesday, March 4. The crew volunteered on their scheduled days off from their shifts to offer assistance.
Statewide Burning Ban Remains In Effect
A statewide burning ban remains in effect for all counties, including Dorchester County. The ban prohibits outdoor burning, which includes yard debris burning, burning for forestry, wildlife or agricultural purposes, campfires, bonfires and other fires for recreational purposes.
“We ask Dorchester County residents to remain cautious and avoid burning on their properties,” said Dorchester County Fire Chief Tres Atkinson. “There continues to be low humidity and wind conditions that can create dangerous conditions for wildfires.”
Residents, especially in rural communities, are encouraged to ensure access to their property is cleared in the event that fire rescue services are needed.
