Press Release
Earlier this year, Dorchester County Government announced a public-private partnership with Home Telecom and Palmetto Rural Telephone Cooperative (PRTC) that will expand high-speed internet access to the western part of the county over the next three years.
This $17.1 million investment is subsidized through matching funds provided by Home Telecom and PRTC along with a maximum grant of $8.5 Million from the American Rescue Plan Act. This partnership will result in 325 miles of buried fiber to more than 4,100 homes that currently do not have access to adequate high-speed internet service. This allows both vendors to offer a high-quality fiber network that provides extremely fast download and upload speeds of up to 1 Gbps (1024 Mbps).
As of November 2022, Dorchester County is excited to announce that PRTC has completed fiber installation for Indian Field Creek and the Mt. Zion areas. Residents living in these areas are now able to sign up for high-speed internet service with PRTC.
For questions or information to sign up, please contact PRTC at 843-931-1212 or visit prtc.us.
