GREENVILLE, SC - Attorneys and the family of Tiru Chabba (pictured), the 45-year-old father of two who was killed in last year’s mass shooting at Florida State University (FSU), released a statement today observing the one-year anniversary of the shooting and Chabba’s death.
On April 17, 2025, Chabba was on the FSU campus as an employee of campus vendor Aramark Collegiate Hospitality when, according to authorities, 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner opened fire shortly before noon killing him and one other and wounding six.
Chabba’s family is represented by national civil rights attorney Bakari Sellers of The Strom Law Firm, J. Robert Bell III of Osborne, Francis and Pettis and Jim Bannister of Bannister, Wyatt and Stalvey.
The statement reads as follows:
"There are some wounds which never heal. This is one of those and, as we remember that horrible moment one year ago when a gunman ripped a hole in our family, it hurts as much as ever.
"Tiru Chabba was a loving husband, a doting father and a beloved son, brother and friend and we will always mourn his loss. Still, there is comfort like this when we see that we are not alone in this loss and that Tiru’s memory is still held and shared in our community, the campus of Florida State University and beyond. That support and shared grief means a great deal to us and we are deeply thankful. This is a profoundly difficult day.
"But we remain strong in our commitment not just to Tiru Chabba’s memory but to the full and unflinching pursuit of justice."
