Due to the increased storm water received in the upper parts of the county from Tropical Storm Debby, Dorchester County Sheriff's Office teams have been going door-to-door to notify residents near the Edisto River of expected significant flooding over the next several days.
Residents are advised to prepare for rising water levels along the Edisto River, which is anticipated to rise up to 15 feet. Dorchester County's first responders are carefully monitoring the situation and will notify the public if any evacuations become necessary.
Sandbag Distribution
To help mitigate the impact of the flooding, sandbags are available to residents beginning at 3:00 p.m. August 7, 2024. Please note the following:
- There is a limit of ten sandbags per resident or business owner.
- Distribution operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Residents are advised to bring their own shovels as the sites operate on a fill-it-yourself model, with the County providing sand and bags.
