Dorchester County’s Planning and Zoning Department is warning residents and applicants about individuals attempting to impersonate County employees through electronic communications.
Residents are encouraged to carefully review emails and messages they receive, especially those requesting payment or personal information. Planning and Zoning may email applicants a link to pay an applicable fee online. However, applicants should only expect these emails after initiating a request with the department.
If you receive a suspicious message, do not click on links, provide personal information or send money until you have verified the communication. Contact the Dorchester County Planning and Zoning Department directly at (843) 832-0020 to confirm whether a message is legitimate.
When in doubt, do not respond to the message and delete it after reporting the suspicious communication.
