The Dorchester County Department of Emergency Management is hosting two upcoming public engagement meetings on the newly drafted Hazard Mitigation Plan. This is a multi-jurisdictional plan which includes municipal stakeholders from the Town of Harleyville, Town of Reevesville, Town of Ridgeville, Town of St. George, and the Town of Summerville, as well as the Summerville Commissioners of Public Works and Dorchester School Districts Two and Four. The plan is reviewed and updated every five years.
The County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies community goals and objectives based on the results of the County's current risk and vulnerability. Each jurisdiction maintains an action plan which prioritizes actions to lessen the impacts of future disasters in each community.
Interested community members are encouraged to save the date for one of the following upcoming public engagement meetings:
- Wednesday, April 29, 2026; 6 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.; St George Library (506 N Parler Avenue, St. George)
- Thursday, April 30, 2026; 6 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.; Emergency Operations Center (212 Deming Way, Summerville)
