WALTERBORO, S.C. – On Thursday, June 5, Team Colleton gathered to honor the 2025 Frist Humanitarian and Excellence in Nursing award recipients.
In 1971 the Frist Humanitarian Award, named in honor of HCA Healthcare co-founder Dr. Thomas Frist, Sr., was created to recognize individuals who serve the community and those in need, and epitomize the highest standards of quality and personal commitment. Colleton Medical Center's Frist Humanitarian Award Recipients are-
The Volunteer Frist Award was presented to Sandra McAlhaney. Sandra is pleasant, well-liked, and is always willing to pick up extra shifts. Each year, she volunteers well over 200 hours.
The Employee Frist Award was presented to Josh Stackley, Environmental Services Director. Josh’s concern for the welfare and happiness of his staff, coupled with his acts of kindness, make him a standout leader.
The Physician Frist Award was presented to Dr. Larry Conley with Edisto Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Dr. Conley’s involvement in the community parallels his dedication to quality patient care. He is deeply committed to improving the lives of those around him, both within the hospital and in the broader community.
The Excellence in Nursing Award was created in 2014 to recognize the intrinsic value of the nursing practice in accomplishing our goal of providing the highest quality of care to the patients we serve. The award recognizes HCA Healthcare nurses who excel in the categories of Compassionate Care and Professional Mentoring.
The Excellence in Nursing – Compassionate Care Award was presented to Bonnie Priester, Inpatient Wound Care Nurse. Bonnie consistently goes above and beyond – not just for her own patients, but for anyone in need. Her actions reflect a deep commitment to excellence and a genuine love for caregiving. She is the very definition of “care like family” for both patients and staff alike.
The Excellence in Nursing – Professional Mentoring Award was presented to Blaire Stanfield, Director of Infection Prevention. Blaire has established excellent rapport with the physicians, gained trust with the nursing staff and set the example for all hospital staff by helping to lead the charge in keeping our patients safe.
