The College of Charleston chapter of Mortar Board National Honor Society is being recognized with a Faculty, Staff and Student Recognition Award as part of Mortar Board's 2026 Project Excellence Awards.
Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes outstanding junior and senior students for excellence in scholarship, leadership and service while empowering them to strengthen the College of Charleston and the broader community through meaningful leadership and service initiatives.
Mortar Board is one of several honor societies represented on campus, connecting students to a network of scholars, leaders, and professionals. Members of Mortar board are in the top third of their class, with academic performance, demonstrated
The College was commended for high member participation and positive campus impact for a "professor coffee hour," which is anticipated to become an annual event to foster awareness of the honor society and encourage both student and faculty participation.
The College also received the 2026 Silver Torch Award from the Mortar Board National Honor Society. This prestigious award recognizes the college for executing all chapter standards.
"These national recognitions are a testament to the dedication, creativity, and servant leadership of our Mortar Board members. Our students are committed to creating programs that celebrate others, strengthen connections across campus, and foster a culture of scholarship, leadership, and service," says Bethany Goodier, director of the Martin Center for Mentorship in Communication and associate professor of communication at the College. Goodier serves as the faculty advisor for CofC's Mortar Board chapter.
"Receiving national recognition once again reflects not only the success of this year's initiatives, but also the sustained tradition of excellence our chapter has built over time. We are incredibly proud of our students and the positive impact they continue to make on the College of Charleston community," she adds.
The College's Mortar Board chapter was chartered in 2023.
