Closing the Gap in Health Care announced it has received a $20,000 grant from the Medical Society of South Carolina. This grant will assist Closing the Gap in its mission to decrease health disparities of African Americans and underserved communities.
For years, Closing the Gap’s Founder and CEO, Dr. Thaddeus J. Bell (pictured) has provided health tips geared toward issues significantly impacting the African American community. Through radio and TV spots, e-newsletters, social media posts, YouTube videos, and barbershop talks, his health tips encourage community members to live healthier, longer lives.
With funding from the Medical Society of South Carolina, Closing the Gap will produce radio and TV spots featuring accurate and culturally-sensitive information on three health topics: COVID-19; heart disease; and prostate cancer. Spots will air on Urban radio stations and cable TV in the tri-county area over the next year.
Dr. Bell stated, “We are very appreciative that the Medical Society thinks enough of Closing the Gap to contribute to our mission. This award will give us the opportunity to reach more members in our community, and ultimately save lives.”
Closing the Gap in Health Care’s work on educating the public about COVID-19 and the vaccine has previously been recognized in TIME Magazine.
