As we continue to see freezing temperatures and wind chills, City officials are working quickly with South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and other regional partners to ensure that roadways are made safe for travel as quickly as possible.
Public Service:
City Garbage and Trash:
- Tuesday routes canceled and will occur next Tuesday, Jan. 28.
- Wednesday routes run Friday, Jan. 24
- Thursday routes run Saturday, Jan 25.
- Residents with extra garbage should place it next to the can for collection.
Trident Waste collection (Outer West Ashley and Johns Island)
- Wednesday-Friday yard waste suspended for the week.
- Wednesday/Thursday garbage collection will be collected Friday, Jan. 25.
- Friday’s garbage collection will occur on Saturday, Jan. 26.
Bridge Closures
The James Island Connector is closed in both directions. SCDOT is working to remove snow and ice for safe travel. Residents can monitor up-to-date bridge closures and openings at this link.
Warming Center Occupancies and Capacities
Holy City Missions (Aldersgate Methodist), Hibben UMC, and Seacoast Summerville are at capacity and staying open today. They will also be open tonight and Friday night. The Leeds Avenue Shelter is closed and transporting remaining guests to their preferred destinations. the Community Resource Center is offering daytime services only. The Community Resource Center provides a shelter during the day and a food pantry. It will be open Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Plows:
12 plows have been sent to Charleston County by South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). They have all been out on the roads working nonstop since their arrival.
CARTA:
CARTA operations are suspended today (Jan. 23). No routes will run.

Stay Off the Roads
City officials are urging residents to stay off the roads for their own safety as well as the safety of first responders. Barricades have been placed across the city to allow snow plows to continue their work. Residents are asked to adhere to barricades and road closures to ensure the safety of everyone during these hazardous conditions.
