As the city braces for more inclement weather and potential flooding, the City of Charleston is opening several parking garages to provide free storm parking for residents. Residents are urged to exercise caution while driving to these locations to park their vehicles.
The following city parking garages will be available to the public for free parking during the storm:
- Aquarium parking garage (24 Calhoun Street)
- Queen Street parking garage (93 Queen Street)
- East Bay/Prioleau parking garage (25 Prioleau Street)
- 99 West Edge parking garage (99 West Edge Street)
- Charleston Tech Center parking garage (997 Morrison Drive)
In order to take advantage of the free storm parking, cars must be parked after 1 p. on Saturday, March 9th, and removed by 10 am on Sunday, March 10th.
Citizens are reminded that garage openings are for cars only, and do not apply to boats, trailers, or golf carts.
Garage Entrance/Exit Procedures for Free Storm Parking in the Designated City Garages:
- Entrance is only allowed beginning at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 9th. Anyone that comes in before this time will not be eligible for free parking and subject to normal parking rates.
- Vehicles need to be removed by 10:00 AM Sunday, March 10th, to be eligible for free parking.
- Pull a ticket upon entering the garage.
- Attendants will be on-site by 10:00 AM Sunday to swipe out storm parkers at the exit gate.
- If no attendant is available, press the black “assistance” button on the upper right-hand side of the call box. An attendant will respond to assist you.
- State you were parking to avoid the flooding.
- Provide your name and address when requested.
- Insert your ticket into the machine (if you have not already done so).
- The attendant will raise the gate for you to exit.
