Charleston County School District (CCSD) this week announced that their Adopt-a-School initiative is officially underway. L.O.C.A.L. (Linking Opportunities to Classrooms and Learners) is a bold call to action for community and business leaders to partner with our schools—adopting a school and its classrooms to provide targeted support and resources.
Here are the details from CCSD:
Our schools face longstanding challenges, including the achievement gap, and educators in all settings serve students and families with unmet needs. The challenges have persisted for generations, and the needs remain present. The reality is clear: if the district alone could have closed the gap, our dedicated educators would have done so long ago. If funding alone were the answer, our resources would have already made the difference. Yet, the challenges remain—highlighting a missing piece.
That’s why we’re launching L.O.C.A.L., a full-scale effort to engage the Charleston community in bridging that gap. This initiative invites individuals, businesses, charities, faith groups, and community organizations, and other entities to adopt a school and its classrooms, providing expertise, resources, and support in areas identified by school principals. Each partner will be strategically matched to ensure their involvement directly benefits students, teachers, and families and to ensure the adoption has a clear purpose.
To recognize and celebrate impactful contributions, participating businesses, organizations, and groups will have the opportunity to earn Seals of Distinction based on their level of engagement and support.
An interactive map on the L.O.C.A.L. website makes it easy to find schools in need near you or schools with needs that match your mission and passion.

We are excited about the official and public L.O.C.A.L. kick-off with a Principal for an A+ Day Event.
We invite you to take part in our public launch event:
- March 25 | 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
- At Principal for an A+ Day, leaders from adopting organizations will step into the role of "Principal for a Day" at their adopted school, gaining firsthand insight into the needs and opportunities for impact.
Now is the time to become a L.O.C.A.L. leader and help create lasting change for Charleston’s children.
