Charleston County Public Works officials will host a community meeting to share updates on the Sol Legare Road Sidewalk Project, a pedestrian safety initiative aimed at creating a safer, more accessible walking corridor along Sol Legare Road on James Island.
The meeting will be held Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the Sol Legare Community Center, 1964 Sol Legare Road.
During the meeting, Public Works officials will provide an overview of the project’s progress to date, review conceptual plans, and outline anticipated next steps. Attendees will also have an opportunity to speak directly with members of the project team.
The Sol Legare Road Sidewalk Project is designed to improve pedestrian safety along the corridor and includes:
- Construction of approximately 1 mile of 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk between Folly Road and the community center near Chavis Road
- Installation of new and improved stormwater infrastructure
- Repaving a portion of Sol Legare Road to enhance drainage flow
- Relocation of existing utilities to accommodate improved stormwater assets
The project is currently in the design phase, funded through a combination of state gas tax revenue and a state grant. Construction is expected to begin in late 2027 and continue through mid-2028.
