Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s (RSFH) Community Investment Program has awarded two $10,000 grants to the Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) to support the Free and Fresh Community Fridge program and the Yoga for Kids event series.
“We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of Roper St. Francis as we strive to provide vital health and wellness resources to our community,” said Executive Director Angela Craig. “Their commitment to fostering healthier lives empowers us to make a meaningful impact through these programs and services. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier future for our community.”
Through its Community Investment Program, RSFH provides donations to support organizations working to positively impact Roper’s prioritized community health needs. Its primary goal is to “make a difference in the lives of people, and in particular, the underprivileged in our community.” The grants are part of an annual funding opportunity targeted at community nonprofit organizations with programs that focus on health or wellness. RSFH has supported the Free and Fresh program since its inception in 2021 and is now in its second year of supporting Yoga for Kids.
“Together, these programs further expand CCPL’s efforts to promote health and wellness across Charleston County,” said Craig.
CCPL’s Free and Fresh program has been accessed more than 23,000 times in 2024 at fridges stationed at three library branches: John L. Dart (1067 King St. in Downtown Charleston), Otranto Road (2261 Otranto Road in North Charleston), and St. Paul’s/Hollywood (5130 Hwy. 165 in Hollywood). Each fridge is stocked with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables thanks to donations from community partners, as well as individuals in the community who can drop off fresh produce at any of the fridges during the library’s operating hours. Any food items in the fridges are free and accessible to the public with no advance registration or sign-up required. If you would like to help support this program, please consider donating by dropping off fresh fruits and vegetables at any of the three locations. You may also make a financial donation on our website.
Yoga for Kids blends playful activities, storytelling, and yoga poses to nurture physical fitness, mindfulness, and creativity in a supportive environment. The sessions, which are tailored for kids and families, take place at select branches across the system. In 2024, more than 300 people participated in the program.
