Charleston County remains at OPCON 1. The Emergency Operations Center is activated with Emergency Management officials continuing to monitor the storm and prepare recovery efforts.

According to the latest information from the National Weather Service, Debby is expected to make landfall near Charleston as a Tropical Storm later tonight. Tropical storm force winds are possible through the evening tonight and into Thursday morning.
With two to four inches of rain anticipated through Saturday, flooding remains a possibility on roadways. Drivers should continue to use extreme caution and avoid flooded or barricaded roads.
Charleston County Emergency Management officials continue to monitor Edisto River levels. According to the National Weather Service, flooding is possible in the coming days. Residents in the area should monitor water levels and be prepared to relocate to higher ground if necessary.
County Operational Updates
Charleston County employees will continue remote operations tomorrow, returning to normal in-person operations Friday, August 9.
To take advantage of the free storm parking, residents must remove cars parked in Charleston County garages by 3 p.m., Thursday, August 8. Cars removed after 3 p.m. Thursday will be subject to normal garage rates.
The storm shelters located at Matilda Dunston Elementary School and 3831 Leeds Avenue will close at 3 p.m., Thursday, August 8. CARTA will assist with transportation as needed via their normal routes.
Due to the amount of rainfall received over the last several days, the Bees Ferry Landfill is expected to reopen Saturday and remain open Sunday.
Tomorrow’s Charleston County Council Committee meetings have been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 13. The County Council meeting will immediately follow.
Thursday’s Bond Court session is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Charleston Center continues to provide withdrawal management and residential services. The Opioid Treatment Program will resume normal dosing hours Saturday morning.
Jury duty is cancelled in the Charleston County Court of Common Pleas and General Sessions this week. All jurors are excused for the week and do not need to report.

Initial Recovery Efforts
Public Works crews will begin structural damage assessments at 12 p.m. tomorrow. Residents who incurred damage due to the storm can report it here. Please contact the county’s Floodplain Division at FloodServices@
Yard debris should be disposed of via normal methods.
Residents in Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) regulated areas in Charleston County, should dispose of any woody storm debris from ALB host trees at the Bees Ferry Convenience Center (1344 Bees Ferry Road) or the Hollywood Convenience Center (5305 Highway 165). Any woody debris half one inch or more in diameter is considered regulated material and must be disposed of properly to prevent spreading ALB to other areas.
ALB host trees include: Ash, Birch, Elm, Golden raintree, Horsechestnut/buckeye, Katsura, London planetree/sycamore, Maple, Mimosa, Mountain ash, Poplar, and Willow. The ALB quarantine applies to the beetle and all its life stages, firewood of all hardwood species, green lumber, and other living, dead, cut, or fallen materials which may include nursery stock, logs, stumps, roots, branches, and debris half an inch or more in diameter of all ALB host trees.
