Charleston County Public Works officials will hold a community meeting to discuss the Central Park Road drainage improvements project on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Murray LaSaine Montessori School, located at 691 Riverland Drive.
During the meeting, officials will discuss the project goals, timeline, and next steps. Following their presentation, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and speak directly with the project team.
This project, which will bring significant flooding relief, includes raising Central Park Road up to two feet between Riverland Drive and Fleming Road, and installing three upsized drainage pipes measuring 48 inches in diameter. The new pipes will be outfitted with two tide gates and one tidal check valve, which block incoming tides exceeding normal high tide elevations.
Together, these measures will prevent roadway flooding caused by the nearby James Island Creek, provide greater flow capacity, allow continual saltwater exchange through the crossing, and increase stormwater storage upstream.
