Charleston Candle Co., founded in 2016 by husband and wife team Kristen and Chaz Schwiers, recently renovated their candle-making workshop “The Candle Studio” at their flagship store on 218 St. Philip Street in downtown Charleston.
At the Candle Studio, patrons can learn how to create and pour custom candles using Charleston Candle Co.’s certified clean fragrance oils and USA grown 100% all-natural soy wax.
“We are so excited to share our new studio with Charleston,” said Kristen Schwiers, founder and co-owner of Charleston Candle Co. “It’s such a delight to share our creative space with guests and watch how they imagine their own scented candles to encapsulate the scents that evoke their individual connections to the Lowcountry.”
Located in the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood of downtown Charleston, 218 St. Philip Street was originally constructed in 1849 as a grocery store and private residence. In 1920, the building became the first African-American bank in Charleston known as The People’s Federation Bank. Since establishing Charleston Candle Co.’s flagship at 218 St. Philip Street in 2021, the Schwiers have made it a priority to preserve elements of the original business including a vaulted door and teller window on the back wall of the Candle Studio.
Guests of the Candle Studio can create two of their own nine-ounce custom scented candles using 24 curated fragrance oils. Private and public classes at the Candle Studio of Charleston Candle Co. are available by reservation at www.charlestoncandleco.com.
