Berkeley County Sheriff's Office went to investigate a report of an unknown odor coming from a garage in a Summerville area neighborhood. The result was the seizure of 15 dogs found living in the garage. The dogs were taken to Charleston Animal Society's Berkeley Campus to receive medical attention and care while the investigation continues.
"As soon as we got the call, we started preparing to accept this large influx of animals. All of the dogs have been examined by our veterinarians, and now have clean food and water, and soft bedding to sleep on tonight,” said Charleston Animal Society Vice President of Operations and Strategy Aldwin Roman, CAWA. "They are now safe with us."
The Berkeley Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation of the situation, including any potential cruelty or neglect charges.
PLEASE COME ADOPT
These 15 dogs have brought the shelter to its full capacity and shelter administrators are asking for the public's help.
"We desperately need to free up kennel space, by getting our current dogs adopted, because these 15 rescues will be with us for the foreseeable future as the case moves through the courts," said Charleston Animal Society Berkeley Campus Director Christina Ellwood, CAWA. "If you are looking for a new pet, we are currently offering 50% off all adult dog and cat adoptions, thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation 'Empty the Shelter' campaign."
