Just in time for back to school season, National Thrift Shop Day is on August 17th and Charleston-based non-profit We Are Family's Closet Case Thrift Store is the ultimate destination for a broad selection of curated items that range from high-end to vintage to trendy styles.
For many in the Lowcountry, particularly LGBTQ+ youth, back-to-school shopping can be stressful emotionally and financially. For these folks, Closet Case is more than just a thrift store, it's a gender-affirming space where they can find clothing that provides comfort and speaks to their authentic selves.
This National Thrift Shop Day, We Are Family invites LGBTQ+ youth and its allies to shop at Closet Case, the only LGBT-owned and operated thrift store in South Carolina. Proceeds from Closet Case directly fund We Are Family’s services which allow youth to connect and cultivate friendships in safe spaces in the area. In 2023, Closet Case recycled over 19,800 pounds of textiles and raised over $80,000 for We Are Family.
Located at 1801 Reynolds Avenue (Unit B) in North Charleston, Closet Case Thrift Store is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information about the store, questions about donations, or to view a list of all upcoming events, visit www.closetcasethrift.com, or follow Closet Case on social media at @closetcasethrift.
