Due to the forecast for inclement weather related to Hurricane Helene, the Charleston County School District (CCSD) will move to eLearning on Friday, September 27, 2024. School and district buildings will be closed.
Here is the message the district sent to families:
"CCSD Families,
Due to the forecast for inclement weather this we ek related to Hurricane Helene, the district will now be moving to eLearning on Friday, September 27, 2024. School and district buildings will be closed on Friday, September 27, 2024.
Your child’s teacher or school will provide direction about the process for learning for tomorrow.
Kaleidoscope and all other extracurricular activities and afterschool programs scheduled for tomorrow are canceled, however, Friday night high school athletic games will be HELD.
We know that any change in operations, especially those made in response to weather events, can be stressful for families to manage. Rest assured, we have provided ample notice so that schools can prepare students with necessary materials, meals, etc. It is our most sincere hope that the timing of this announcement allows you to make work, child care, etc., arrangements.
We deliberated over the determination carefully. Ultimately, the safety of our students is the top and most important priority.
The other factors considered when making this decision were:
- Anticipated wind speeds and gusts causing potentially dangerous conditions for bus travel in our area.
- The need to assess school buildings and campuses in daylight hours, making the necessary assessment unlikely to be completed in time to allow for a 2-hour delay.
- The likelihood of significant rain bands persisting in our area in the morning.
If you would like to learn more about the decision-making process, you can view this page.
We trust our teachers and school leaders to create assignments that are manageable for families and enhance your child’s education while understanding that there are unique circumstances for all students.
Schools will return to normal operations on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Thank you for your attention to this message, and please, stay safe."
