Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) will open Main at Morrison, located at 1142 Morrison Drive, on Monday, Oct. 5. This location will serve the community while the Main Library at 68 Calhoun Street is closed during its renovation.
Main at Morrison will offer approximately 6,300 square feet of public space and provide many of the core services previously available at Main Library. Features and services at the temporary location include (but are not limited to):
- Browsing collections for children, teens and adults
- Holds pickup
- Interlibrary Loan support
- Public computers and Internet access
- Print and copy services
- Exterior materials return
- Staff assistance
- Limited space for select events and programs
- Free parking
“Main at Morrison gives us an opportunity to continue providing a welcoming and accessible library space for our downtown community while this important work is underway at Main Library,” said CCPL Executive Director Angela Craig. “We’re excited to welcome our patrons into this temporary location and reconnect them with the collections, technology, services, and staff they rely on. We appreciate the community’s patience during this transition and look forward to serving them at Morrison Drive.”
Main at Morrison will be open during the following hours:
- Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
- Friday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Saturday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Sunday: Closed
The Main Library closed Aug. 1 to begin the final phase of the referendum-funded project approved by Charleston County voters in 2014. Renovation work is expected to take approximately 18 months. The project will relocate children and teen services to the same floor and include refreshed public spaces and enhanced programming areas designed to better support how the community learns, creates and connects.
As part of the renovations, the South Carolina Room at Main Library also closed earlier this year, with a temporary location now available at 1248 Camp Road. The department is CCPL's primary local history and genealogy research hub, providing access to materials that document the history and people of Charleston County and the state of South Carolina. The temporary location is available by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, contact the location at 843-805-6956 or scroom@ccpl.org.
