The Charleston Area Justice Ministry (CAJM) will host its annual Community Problems Assembly on Nov. 18, 2024 at Greater St. Luke AME Church, (78 Gordon St., Charleston) at 6:30 p.m. CAJM members will gather to vote on whether the justice ministry will adopt a new issue campaign, elect new board members, and welcome Greater St. Luke as a new CAJM congregation. The organization will also outline next steps of the justice cycle, and there will be important updates on their ongoing campaigns, including education, policing, environmental justice, school board governance and affordable housing.
This event will focus on engaging the community in upcoming research and events and targeting areas that are still subject of great concern for those on the margins with actionable and defined next steps.
CAJM is also announcing that they are reengaging their North Charleston policing campaign. Years ago, CAJM was the first organization following the murder of Walter Scott in 2015 to advocate that the city agree to a racial bias audit. On Nov. 18, they will share how they intend to re-engage North Charleston’s mayor, city council, and newly-appointed chief around this audit and implementing its recommendations.
