On Saturday, July 20, 2024, Brookgreen Gardens hosted the Brookgreen Gardens Gala in celebration of the National Historic Landmark’s newest addition, the Simpson Art Center. Set to open to the public in September 2024, the approximately 4,000 square foot art center will include a state-of-the-art studio and sculpture conservation lab, where guests will be able to interact with nationally recognized sculptors and contemporary artists, as well as participate in an array of programs and classes.
The Simpson Art Center is a key component of the Garden’s Campaign for the Next Generation, an initiative aimed at expanding its art, history and nature programs through new and renovated facilities.
Guests at the Gala, dressed in art-inspired attire, enjoyed an exclusive first look at the Simpson Art Center, live music, a champagne toast, and had the chance to meet artists-in-residence and faculty of the Martha Wallace Pellett Master Sculptor Program. The event was highlighted by remarks from key stakeholders of Brookgreen including Hal Holmes Jr., M.D., chairman of the board of trustees; Page Kiniry, president and CEO; and Robin R. Salmon, VP of art and historical collections/curator of sculpture.
