Berkeley County Library System (BCLS), in collaboration with Berkeley County Veterans Affairs, will be offering "Veterans Affairs Assistance" to veterans and their families at the following libraries and dates:
10 a.m. – 3 p.m.:
- Sangaree (595 Sangaree Parkway, Summerville) - August 6, 20, September 3, 17, October 8, November 5 and 19, December 3 and 17, 2026 and January 7 and 21, 2027.
- Hanahan (1216 Old Murray Court, Hanahan) - August 13 & 27
It is advisable to call 843-719-4023 in advance to schedule an appointment. Please let the representative know that you would like an appointment at the Sangaree or Hanahan Library contingent upon the above dates per library.
Berkeley County Veterans Affairs staff will be on-site at the Sangaree and Hanahan Libraries as cited above to assist in determining eligibility for all benefits veterans may be qualified including disability compensation, pension, death, educational, home loan guarantee and/or medical not excluding additional benefits.
Services include:
- Assisting with filing claims for various benefits and entitlements for veterans and their families, including obtaining veterans military medical records and personnel file.
- Work in tandem with veterans' service organizations as well as state and federal government agencies to educate and serve veterans and their families.
- Assist veterans' survivors in filing for death benefits, survivor benefits annuity, burial benefits, and insurance annuity.
- Assist with admission to Veterans Hospitals and nursing home care facilities.
"The Berkeley County Veterans Affairs Office is pleased to return to two additional libraries to assess the viability of extending our services into the community," said Gerald "Jerry" Baxley, Veteran Affairs Director. The "Veterans Assistance" sessions being offered at both libraries will determine the best utilization of our resources."
