The Awendaw-McClellanville Fire Department, in partnership with the towns of Awendaw and McClellanville, will host a Community Preparedness Expo on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McClellanville Middle School, located at 711 Pinckney Street.
The free event will provide residents with practical information, hands-on learning opportunities and local resources to help them prepare for emergencies before they happen. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with emergency response partners and explore a variety of preparedness topics, including:
- First aid training
- Building emergency kits
- Evacuation planning
- Live demonstrations
- Hands-on activities for all ages
- Free giveaways
"It’s important for every resident to be prepared for emergencies of all types and to have a plan in place before an emergency occurs," said Awendaw-McClellanville Fire Department Chief Shaun Gadsden. "This expo is an opportunity to give our community the knowledge and resources they need to prepare with confidence while strengthening the relationships between first responders and the people we serve. Preparedness is a shared responsibility, and we are committed to helping our residents every step of the way."
