Charleston County School District (CCSD) is excited to announce and welcome Angela McLaughlin (pictured) as Executive Director of Nutrition Services. Former Executive Director Walter Campbell retired in December 2023 after 17 years of service in the district. McLaughlin has served as the Director of Nutrition Services since 2019.
McLaughlin began her career in CCSD as a food service manager in 2011. In this role, she oversaw all aspects of daily school food service operations such as meal preparation, inventory, point of sale and production tracking, employee relations, parent and student interactions, scheduling, and record keeping. Additionally, she managed multiple special projects for the department including Early Head Start, Head Start, Child Development and Adult Care Food Program applications; At-Risk Afterschool Meals Program applications; and Head Start and CD Supper site visits and training.
A team player and standout leader, McLaughlin was quickly promoted two years later to a Nutrition Services Officer [Supervisor] where she began managing the Child and Adult Care Program, At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program, Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program, Department of Defense Commodity Funds, and Nutrition Services recruitment and hiring. She also coordinated the School Health Advisory Council while supervising multiple schools and sites.
In 2019, McLaughlin became the Director of Nutrition Services bringing with her a steadfast commitment to building a strong workplace culture through transparency and effective communication. Over the last four years, McLaughlin has worked alongside Campbell and the Nutrition Services leadership team to ensure departmental compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, as well as maintain and improve revenues, expenditures, and standard operating practices to ensure efficient and effective operations.
“Angela is an outstanding leader and has been since she first joined the district as a food service manager at Harbor View,” said Jeff Borowy, Chief Operating Officer. “We are grateful to Mr. Campbell for his many years of dedicated service and wish him well in his retirement. We look forward to Ms. McLaughlin’s continued leadership of the department and its integral role of nourishing and helping equip our students to learn each day.”
McLaughlin earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Bowling Green State University. She was named the 2012 Nutrition Services Manager of the Year, 2012 Nutrition Services Healthy School Recipe Challenge Winner, and 2013 James Island Community Education’s Distinguished Servicewoman of the Year. She also holds a ServSafe Manager level certification.
