The International African American Museum (IAAM) will be hosting an engaging community Giving Tuesday on December 2, as the museum will be hosting both a special free admission day and a signature evening event.
Free admission to the International African American Museum (IAAM) will begin that day at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., sponsored by three local AME faith-based partners. This free admission day will provide the opportunity for the surrounding community to experience IAAM from the churches’ spirit of giving and belonging. Those interested in visiting the museum that day can reserve their free tickets on a first-come, first-served basis HERE. Walk-ups will be accepted, but admission will be based on reservations and museum capacity.
Later that evening from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., the museum will be hosting Night at the Museum: The Gullah Sound of Storytelling – an evening inspired by rhythm, faith and the enduring voice of the Gullah Geechee people. This special night will highlight IAAM’s Gullah Geechee gallery and weave together music, dance, and oral storytelling to uplift how sound and spirit share intertwined culture. Tickets for this event start at $35 and can be purchased HERE, with a special $10 off discount for IAAM members.
Guests will experience a powerful lineup of cultural performers, including the soulful sounds of Charlton Singleton, poetry spoken by IAAM’s very own CEO and President Dr. Tonya M. Matthews, the graceful movements of J. Pink for Arts, and the wisdom of renowned storyteller Dr. Marlena Smalls.
“Giving Tuesday at IAAM brings together faith, culture, and community in one powerful day of impact,” said IAAM’s Chief Marketing Officer Ashlei Elise. “Through the generosity of our local congregations and the creativity of our team, we’re transforming the museum into a space where giving isn’t just an act — it’s an experience. From morning to night, it’s about connection, culture, and collective purpose.”
“We’re inviting the community to ‘pass the plate’ and give what they can,” Elise said. “Because at IAAM, every dollar tells a story, and every gift — no matter the size — moves our mission forward.”
All proceeds will support IAAM’s “Road to 500K” campaign: An effort to welcome 500,000 visitors and raise $500,000 by the end of the year to continue the museum’s long-standing mission of sharing the untold stories of African Americans and the African Diaspora. Supporters of the museum can also contribute online for Giving Tuesday HERE.
