Personal finance website WalletHub today released a report on States With the Best and Worst Budgeters in 2025 and South Carolina residents ranked as being the 9th worst in the country. This is a slightly better ranking than last year.
In the study, WalletHub evaluated all 50 states across 12 key indicators of budgeting habits, including average credit scores, debt-to-income ratios and foreclosure rates.

- 44th – Foreclosure Rate
- 46th – Credit Utilization Percentage
- 45th – Housing Expenses as a Percentage of Median Home Price
- 32nd – Percentage of Total Non-Housing Expenses to Median Income
