On Wednesday, October 9th, the USS Yorktown Foundation will host the first of two yoga classes on the USS Yorktown flight deck at 5:30 p.m. The second class will be held on Wednesday, October 30th at 6:30 p.m. Participants are invited to enjoy an all-level yoga class taught by certified instructors from Lowcountry Yoga.
“The Foundation is always seeking unique ways to engage the community and bring people to Patriots Point while advancing our charitable goals,” said Meaghan Silsby, Executive Director of the USS Yorktown Foundation. “Lowcountry Yoga has been a great partner of ours, and we’re thrilled to host the event again this year, giving participants a special experience while contributing to our efforts in education and preservation.”
The USS Yorktown Foundation supports the education program at Patriots Point by providing scholarships to students across the state of South Carolina, enabling them to participate in educational programs aboard the Yorktown. The foundation has funded over 6,000 scholarships since its inception. In addition, the foundation, in partnership with the museum, funds the enhancement and creation of new exhibits throughout the Yorktown, Laffey, and the Vietnam Experience.
“We’re excited to bring yoga to such an iconic Charleston landmark,” said Erica Lindquist, owner of Lowcountry Yoga. “Practicing on the USS Yorktown is a unique experience, and we’re honored to be part of an event that supports such an important cause.”
Registration for each class is $25 and participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats.
