Personal finance website WalletHub today released its report on the states where people spend the most and least on health care, and South Carolina ranked as having the 10th-lowest percentage of income spent on health care.
To identify where residents spend the largest share of their earnings on health care, WalletHub analyzed the costs of five key health care components in all 50 states, then combined those expenses and compared them with each state’s median household income.
Healthcare Spending in South Carolina (1=Most Expensive; 25=Avg.):
- Average Cost of Health Care: $353.95
- Average Cost of Health Care as % of Median Monthly Household Income: 6.13%
- 48th – Average Price of a Doctor Visit
- 47th – Average Price of a Dentist Visit
- 49th – Average Price of an Optometrist Visit
- 29th – Average Price of Ibuprofen
- 31st – Average Price of Lipitor
