Redux Contemporary Art Center is thrilled to announce the opening of Jarod Charzewski’s solo installation, The Sword of Damocles. The Sword of Damocles is a site specific installation that examines the delicate and often futile attempts by humanity to control the natural forces that surround us. Visitors can expect to see objects found after a flood, suspended off the gallery floor, hovering in a dreamlike state, existing both within and beyond our reality. Referencing the Greek myth of Damocles, the tension of the suspension symbolizes binding and restraint controlling the objects, as much as a fear of losing and having them fall.
Redux will also be showcasing Studio Artist Kris Hanson for a solo exhibition. Her exhibition The Age of Warrior Queens, will focus on the feminine archetype of a Warrior Queen; embodying courage, strength, and persistence throughout time. This
feminist solo exhibition will incorporate the use of found objects in the creation of three-dimensional objects. The black and white images anchor the Warrior Queens in the context of the past, present and future lives of women in society. Finally, on display will be the works from the most recent cohort of artists in the fast-paced Lightning Residency program, Kenish Thompson and Sophia Angela. The exhibitions will be on view from February 7th through March 15, 2025.
An opening reception will be held at Redux Art Center on Friday, February 7 from 5-8PM. For more information, please visit www.reduxstudios.org.
