Hotel Richemont, a boutique hotel located along downtown Charleston’s historic King Street, is excited to share that its doors will open this month, with reservations available Thursday, June 19 and beyond. The bespoke, 25-room property is a project from Charleston-based The Indigo Road Hospitality Group, the award-winning team behind beloved restaurants and experiential hotels throughout the Southeast, in collaboration King and Society Development, led by Troy Barber, alongside partners Sean Hartness, David Hartness, PJ Kane, Peter Ulber.
The property, which has undergone complete renovation, is located at the junction of King and Society Streets just steps away from the city’s most noteworthy destinations, including renowned shops and restaurants, the Historic District, and The College of Charleston. With 25 thoughtfully appointed rooms, including suites outfitted with fully equipped kitchens, spacious living rooms, and private king and queen bedrooms, guests have plenty of options to customize their stay for a Charleston pied-à-terre-like experience. The design showcases a unique blend of nods to historic Charleston and contemporary elements, drawing inspiration from the city’s art, history, architecture, and natural beauty.
“King and Society is thrilled to partner with Indigo Road on Hotel Richemont and Two Bit Club, says Troy Barber, Founder and Partner of King and Society Development. “Indigo Road has a proven track record of success, and we are eager to bring these two exciting additions to the central King Street neighborhood.”
In addition to the rooms and suites, Hotel Richemont houses a Vietnamese-inspired restaurant and bar, Two Bit Club, which will begin welcoming guests for dinner on Thursday, June 19. Two Bit Club was named as a nod to the 1730s French Benevolent Society by the same name that later became the South Carolina Society, which is still flourishing today. Helmed by Executive Chef Jelo Tria, the restaurant offers flavorful small plates, as well as a cocktail-forward beverage program. The property will be a haven of a hotel, restaurant, and bar that welcomes locals and visitors alike to experience a hidden-in-plain-sight gem.
“With Hotel Richemont, we set out to create something that feels both timeless and entirely new, a tucked-away haven in the heart of the city that honors Charleston’s rich character while embracing a modern hospitality,” says Gabriel Perez, Lodging Director of Indigo Road Hospitality Group. “From the unbeatable location to thoughtful design details to a vibrant culinary experience at Two Bit Club, every element of the property was crafted to offer guests a memorable stay, while also being a place locals enjoy spending time in their own city.”
History Meets Luxury
Hotel Richemont’s design thoughtfully honors Charleston’s history through meticulous restoration and a collaborative effort between Betsy Berry of Charleston-based B. Berry Interiors, Neil Stevenson Architects, Tara Romano of Romano A+D, and Head Project Manager Alex Webb- together capturing the hotel’s perfect blend of historic charm and modern style. Guests step into the Hotel Richemont courtyard from Society Street, passing welcoming lounge furniture, lush greenery, and a flowing fountain before entering the chic hotel lobby. A sweeping mural by Jess Kollar of Jess Kollar Designs anchors the wall behind the reception desk and welcomes guests to the Holy City’s newest hideaway. Custom mirrors from local craftsman Bob Hines placed throughout the courtyard and lobby mimic the building’s original windows and optimize natural light. Before heading upstairs, guests encounter a restored bank vault door in a nod to the hotel’s past life as a bank.
The corridors leading to guest rooms are dotted by custom brass sconces engraved with room numbers and illuminate the geometric carpets and crown moldings. Stretching across two adjacent historic buildings, the 25 guest rooms juxtapose historic elements such as exposed beams against a moody, modern color scheme and luxury fixtures and finishes throughout. High-end touches such as custom furniture and built-in storage, designer lighting, and original artwork by local artists including Whitney Stoddard and Blakely Made work together to create spaces that feel more like private residences than hotel rooms.
Bringing Vietnamese Cuisine to the Table
The on-site restaurant, Two Bit Club, features a selection of Vietnamese-inspired starters, small plates, and large format entrees where guests can expect everything from fresh spring rolls and aromatic salads to hearty stir-fry, noodle, and rice dishes. Cocktails will be the star of the beverage program, featuring flavors such as lychee, lemongrass, and yuzu, as well as a curated selection of wine, beer, and spirit-free offerings. The dining room, also designed by B. Berry, will be sleek and modern with clean lines, leather-backed banquette seating, natural wood finishes, and pops of greenery throughout. The restaurant will also feature an adjacent private dining space, the Garden Room, that will act as a bridge between the lush courtyard within the lobby and Two Bit Club. The space will seat 14 and boast floor to ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light, making it the perfect spot for intimate gatherings. Two Bit Club will offer dinner and drinks to hotel guests and the public seven nights a week.
“Charleston already has an incredible and diverse culinary community, and we’re excited to be part of that, bringing our own take on Vietnamese cuisine to the table,” says Tria. “Two Bit Club is a reflection of my background and love for bold flavors, street food energy, and the kind of meals that spark connection. It’s an honor to share that here, and to add to the city’s growing appetite for global flavors and fun, fresh dining experiences.”
