OluKai, a premium Hawaiian-inspired footwear brand, today announced the opening of its newest and largest retail location at 338 King Street, Unit A (formerly Francesca’s) – the brand’s 11th storefront and 24th retail experience from its parent organization Archipelago Companies, which also owns melin, Roark and Kaenon.
The 1,803-square-foot store carries men's and women's sandals, sneakers, slippers and golf shoes as well as hats from melin.
“Hawai’i’s island spirit aligns beautifully with Charleston’s laid-back coastal lifestyle and rich heritage," said OluKai CMO Kerry Konrady. "The city’s unique blend of history, culture and seaside charm creates an ideal setting for sharing OluKai’s story and showcasing our thoughtfully crafted products."
Store design highlights include:
- Custom mosaic tile (pictured) at the entrance spelling “E Komo Mai" (a Hawaiian phrase meaning "welcome" or "come in")
- Sweetgrass baskets by local artist Corey Alston, a fifth-generation Gullah Geechee weaver
- Lei-inspired artwork, including a custom piece by Hawaiian artist Kristen Reyno
- Pineapple details throughout the space (cash wrap, lighting, tile), recognizing the shared symbol of hospitality in Hawaiian and Southern traditions.
- Haint Blue ceilings, a Charleston tradition with Gullah Geechee roots (believed to ward off evil spirits), bringing both comfort and cultural meaning
- Custom wallpaper inspired by china dinnerware showcasing a blend of sweetgrass roses, orchids, pineapples, sacred birds and butterflies, combining Charleston and Hawaiian motifs
OluKai is open Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can also shop online at OluKai.com.
