We are fortunate to have such a wonderful planet to take care of us, and Toby the Turtle would love your help in continuing his mission to #KeepFollyClean! Join Toby on Folly Beach on Sunday, April 6th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for his Earth Month Island-Wide Spring Sweep. The sweep is hosted by Toby Turtle, the Folly Association of Business (FAB) Litter Committee, and the City of Folly Beach, in partnership with the South Carolina Aquarium.
From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., stations will be set up across the island from the Lighthouse Reserve to W 9th St. Ext. Each station will be manned by a station leader who will provide supplies and data sheets to volunteers. Immediately after the sweep, volunteers are invited to join the volunteer-exclusive after-sweep party at Bounty Bar from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring drink specials and 50% off select appetizers. Additional Folly Beach businesses will be providing discounts on food, drinks, and merchandise for volunteers showing their sweep-issued wristband.
Volunteers will be asked to record data on the debris they collect. The data will be added to the South Carolina Aquarium Litter Journal (SCALJ) and utilized by the Litter Committee for a concrete numerical understanding of litter issues on the island. This information will then be presented to officials to create and enforce legislation to improve the litter issues on Folly Beach.
Show some love to your Mother Earth and sign up to volunteer now, or learn more about the FAB Litter Committee, their mission, and annual litter sweeps at VisitFolly.com.
