Getting married in Charleston is about to look a little different.
Holy City Officiating, a Charleston-area wedding company led by longtime wedding officiant Nikki Sloss, is launching The Roving Wedding Chapel, a recurring wedding experience for couples who want to get married without planning a traditional wedding.
Inspired by the accessibility and spontaneity of classic Las Vegas wedding chapels, the concept replaces a permanent chapel with curated locations throughout the Charleston area. The first Roving Wedding Chapel experience will take place Oct. 31, 2026, with a Halloween-inspired event at a secret Charleston-area location.
Couples reserve a ceremony time and arrive with their South Carolina marriage license, their partner and up to four guests. Holy City Officiating handles the ceremony.
“I love a beautiful Charleston wedding, but I have also met a lot of couples over the years who simply do not want all of that,” Sloss said. “They want to marry their person, have a moment that feels special and go celebrate. There should be something here for them, too.”
Sloss has officiated weddings in the Charleston area since 2012. Her experience with couples seeking alternatives to both courthouse ceremonies and large traditional weddings helped shape the concept.
“The Roving Wedding Chapel is not supposed to be a smaller version of a traditional wedding,” Sloss said. “It is its own experience. It is quick, fun and intentional, and every time the chapel moves, we get to create something different.”
The Halloween experience carries the theme, “A little spooky. A lot romantic.” The location will be revealed to booked couples before the event. Future Roving Wedding Chapel experiences are expected to appear periodically at different venues and unexpected spaces around the Lowcountry.
The Roving Wedding Chapel is part of a broader evolution of Holy City Officiating, which provides elopements, wedding officiating, micro weddings and day-of coordination for couples seeking simpler and more personalized ways to celebrate.
