Lowcountry Etiquette, a Charleston-based business that teaches children the art of good manners, has released a new book: French Fries & Thank You: A Guide to Making Manners Fun. Co-authored by Beverly Sumner and her daughters, Grayson LeVeen and Price Sigal, the book offers an approachable, engaging take on etiquette for kids.
The project is rooted in family tradition. The book is dedicated to Beverly Sumner’s mother, Sudie Wilson, who began teaching etiquette to children in Rock Hill in 1967. With more than 30 years of combined family experience, the trio continues this legacy for today’s generation.
French Fries & Thank You guides parents and teachers through essentials such as dining etiquette, handshakes, thank-you notes, introductions and responding to invitations. The authors’ goal is to help children build confidence, empathy and leadership skills — because good manners open doors.
“We started this mission by teaching manners to children because we believe they are the kindest version of ourselves,” the authors said.
In addition to their classes and book, Lowcountry Etiquette partners with local nonprofits KidsOnPoint and Horizons at Ashley Hall to provide free etiquette education to underserved students in Charleston.
This fall, the organization continues its signature three-week course, French Fries & Thank You, and will offer a holiday pop-up class, Candy Canes & Thank You, on Saturday, Dec. 20, from 12–1:30 p.m. Private group sessions tailored for children and middle schoolers are also available.
Books are available for purchase in local Charleston stores and on Amazon. For additional details or to register for upcoming classes, visit lowcountryetiquette.com or follow @lowcountryetiquette on Instagram.
